Comments/Trivia -1 of 4 Video Madness playsets, released in 1987
-The name of this playset is a Jem song title.
-In the 1987 Hasbro Toy Fair catalogue it is the "Love Is Doing It To Me" playset.
Produced Variants So far, I have seen this playset sold in the following packaging. Since they were all made in the same factories, I don't know if there are any country-of-release related differences or not:

  • Canadian

clapboard: Bright orange with blue stripes, pink shiny decal.
  • The name of the playset it came with is the name of the production on the clapboard.
  • Each Video Madness playset came with a specific clapboard.

backdrop: Two-sided brightly coloured cardboard backdrop. One side for "Love is Here", the other for "Can't Get My Love Together".
  • The backdrop can only be used on the Star Stage on the "Love Is Here" side as it's not symmetrical.  I've also had a hard time keeping my backdrop in place as the cardboard is much larger than the Star Stage cover.  It would have been nice if the light clips could have held it in place!
  • Each Video Madness playset came with a specific backdrop.

cassette tape: Has the songs "Love is Here, Can't Get My Love Together," and "Jem Theme."  Instrumentals on reverse side.
  • Each Video Madness playset came with a specific cassette.
  • Love Is Here and The Jem Theme are shorter than those from the dolls' tapes. (not yet sure about Can't Get My Love.)

2 stage lights: A pair of plastic stage lights with yellow and pink painted bulbs.

doll watch: Rubber with a painted face.  Actually straps onto a doll's wrist.
  • This watch in green is listed in the Hasbro Pre-Toy Fair Catalogue Matching Medley Fashion Accessories
  • Some Maxie dolls also had watches like these in different colours.

keyboard: Orange plastic with white and pink keys, gold cord.
  • Cord is the same as used on Video's camera.

picture frame: Orange plastic with pink painted details, a decal of Rio.
  • Illustration is taken from Rio's "Rappin'" illustrated fashion card.
microphone: dark salmon pink.
  • Flash N' Sizzle Jem came with the same microphone.
necktie: Yellow and pink spandex with a yellow elastic neckband.
  • the same fabric is used on the gloves.
gloves: Yellow and pink spandex armbands (no finger holes)
  • the same fabric is used on the necktie.
face mask: Semi-transparent glittery pink.
  • I believe the same plastic as 2nd Edition Kimber's keyboard.
  • It's held on by a pink elastic, shown at the bottom of this page.
  • It looks very spooky on Jem dolls!

eye mask: Semi-transparent glittery pink.
  • I believe the same plastic as 2nd Edition Kimber's keyboard.
  • It's held on by a pink elastic, shown at the bottom of this page.
sticker sheet: Small colourful stickers on a clear background, heart theme.
  • Each Video Madness playset came with a specific sticker sheet.

Items not listed in Hasbro's box contents
Elastics:  Bright pink with loops sewn on the ends.
  • They are used to hold on the masks.

Box, liner and inserts not previously noted in Hasbro's box contents above.
*not all playsets came with the same posters and inserts, this is a listing of what I got personally with my playset.
Box: US issue H44 Accessories Made in China, Cassette Made in Hong Kong

Box Liner: White cardboard

Other images of Love Is Here (generally unproduced/prototypes/promotional figures) Differences from produced playset (if any)
Hasbro catalogues -The 1987 France/UK Toy Fair Catalogue (French Shown) has it's own photographs: Clapboard colours are right but decal is missing, watch is missing face, masks have different molds (the way the elastic attaches would be different), they are also opaque, no gloves are shown, tie has splotches on the yellow fabric, no cord on the keyboard, tape's writing is too small to be the correct one, there is a die-cut Jem logo sticker (?) included.
Hasbro box photographVideo Madness Box front image is the same as the photo in the 1987 US Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogue: shows masks with different molds (the way the elastic attaches would be different), they are also opaque. The gloves and tie are shown to have pink splotches on the yellow parts, the sticker sheet shown is not quite the same.  The watch face is white and appears to be blank. The set is called the "Love is Doin' It to Me" playset; on the smaller photo in the corner, you can see the clapboard has the song title is "Love is Doin' It To Me".
Video Madness Box back image is the same as the one on the Second Year Jem Catalogue Poster: shows masks with different molds (the way the elastic attaches would be different), they are also opaque. The gloves and tie are shown to have pink splotches on the yellow parts.  The watch face is white and appears to be blank.
