  • 1 of 8 Flip Side  Fashions, released in 1986

  • The name of this fashion is a not Jem song title, but it is the opening line in the song Only The Beginning.

sheer shirt; crisp sheer white fabric with hearts and squiggles design, does not close in front.
  • There is a variation on this shirt, the fabric can have a slightly shinier/coarser texture (shown left), or it can be more matte and soft feeling.  I have seen the matte version in a 1st edition box only, so far, the shinier shirt in both boxes.  See a photo of both together.

pink jumpsuit; Plum spandex, velcro in back, dips down in the middle front.
  • is quite a bit darker and has longer legs than the bodysuit from Only the Beginning.
  • There is a variant, with vertical stitching on the bodice.  Possibly a second year improvement?

yellow pants; crisp cotton, bright canary yellow, velcro closure in back.

belt; Thick fuchsia foil with a gold hologram sticker as a "buckle" decoration, velcro closure.
tam; Bright yellow fleece, elasticized.

pumps; Straight edged magenta pumps
sunglasses; raspberry pink.
  • There may be a variation: yellow glasses, a tinge darker than those from Up & Rockin'.
  • colour can range from the dark shade shown here, to a paler shade.
  • See a photo of the three pairs together.

Packaging Variants: A listing of the packaging that Music In The Air can be found in, that I know of, so far!
*I don't own all of these fashions NRFB so I can't say which, if any posters and inserts originally came with it.  Bold listings are those I have used to create this ID page.  Anything in Italics I haven't actually seen but have good reason to believe exists.  If you have any photos or information/corrections to share, I'd love to hear about it!

Other images of Music In The Air (generally unproduced/prototypes/promotional figures) Differences from produced fashion (if any)
Hasbro catalogue (1986) The belt looks like a functioning belt with a metal buckle and the glasses are not shown, otherwise looks about right.
1987 Hasbro Box Photo #1, same photo is used on the backs of the 1987 Flip Side Fashion boxes and the 1987 Jem catalogue poster.  In the 1987 France & UK Toy Fair Catalogue & 1987 US Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogue it's the same photo but Jem & Jerrica have been manipulated to be standing reversed.
1987 Hasbro Box Photo #2, from Music In The Air box front - appears to be the same outfit as Photo #1, in different poses.

German Jem leaflet (same photo appears in the 1986 Belgium catalogue) No belt or glasses, looks a bit redder.  The pattern on the jacket looks a little different but it's hard to tell.
