Kitty Kitty Kittens
I confess I don't know much about this line, other than that they were immensely popular with children of the nineties and into the new millennium.  Their special feature was their "purring" mechanism -which I imagine must be a ball inside a tube- built into the cat that made a purr-like noise when the toy is shaken/rocked/moved.  Also appealing are their expressions which range from spacy to sad to surly.  I have yet to see a genuinely cheerful looking Kitty Kitty Kitten, but the pig I guess does have sort of a smile.

List of my Collection
According to the earliest laundry tags I've seen, Tyco started the Kitty Kitty Kitten empire in 1992.  I imagine they became available in stores in 1993, and were available intermittently until about 2003.  The latest date I've seen on a Tyco tag is 1996, though it's possible they continued making them longer than that.  In 2000, the kittens were marked DSI.  As far as I know, they were discontinued in 2004 or earlier.
This list is obviously by no means complete, just a listing of the all the different ones I've picked up over the years ;)  If anyone can help me identify or name the ones I have, I would be pleased to host any relevant information here.  I know that they probably all had proper names as well, one day I hope to learn them.  In short, this page is here because there doesn't seem to be *any* other Kitty Kitty Kittens information page out there yet.  The vast majority of kittens I have are from Canada and have bilingual tags on them.  I do not know if other countries had differences that aren't listed here.

1992 Kitty Kitty Kittens (core line).   1992 Tyco Industries, Inc. Made in China. Purple writing on laundry tag, wearing chiffon neckties with sparkly dot pattern.  Approximately 10" long, "purred" when head was tilted/body was rocked.  These could have been issued pretty much any year, despite being dated 1992.  They were probably not issued the same year as those in the table below.
I have seen an advertisement featuring these cats all together; the names following are those given there.

Approximately 10" long, "purred" when head was tilted/body was rocked.  Magenta/purplish-pink writing on laundry tag, wearing sparkly polka-dot chiffon necktie.  Although they share the same date as the kittens above, they could be from 1993 or later, if they aren't the original issues themselves.
I bought this one from a lady in New York, not sure if the country difference explains the colour difference on the laundry tag writing.

1992 Kitty Kitty Kittens (Large) 1992 Tyco Industries, Inc. Made in Thailand. The largest of the kittens, approximately 18" long. Make a purring noise when moved.  Tag shown is from the cream coloured kitty.

1992 Kitty Kitty Jungle Kittens 1992 Tyco Industries, Inc. Made in Thailand. Slightly larger (the heads, especially) than average Kitty Kitty Kittens, came in jungle prints, with a spandex animal-print necktie.
I have seen a laundry tag without the washing instructions/paler green writing.

1993 Kitty Kitty Kittens (core line).   1993 Tyco Industries, Inc.  Made in Thailand.  Hot Pink writing.
Approximately 10" long, "purred" when head was tilted/body was rocked.  
1994 Sears Wishbook  Kitty Kitten and Puppy Twin Set, made of soft plush exteriors and each with it's own basket-look box. Kittens come with a collar and mathcing bracelet that can be personalized.  Pick up the kittens and they purr.  The puppies, wiht a gentle cuddle, will wag their tails with delight.  Set of two.

1995 Sears Wishbook Came with an elasticized chiffon necklace, with a plastic heart locket that opened to show a photo of the kitten on the right side, and a space for you to write a name in on the left.

Kitty Kitty Baby Kittens 1995  Tyco Industries Inc, Made in Thailand (Dark Pink writing).  Smaller than regular kitty kitty kittens.  The heads are about the same size but the torso is much shorter.  Plain chiffon collars.
1996 Sears Wishbook: Kitty Kitty Kittens Life-like kittens purr when head is tilted to feed. Comes with bottle.  Available at Sears only through the catalogue! Each kitten sold separately.  Sorry, no choice of colour.  Ages 3 years and up. 
These could be any of the kittens listed on my page so far.  I still am not sure how to differentiate them by the year of issue.

1996 Kitty Kitty Baby Kittens 1996 Tyco Industries Inc, Made in China. The smallest (and cutest, in my opinion) Kitty Kitty Kittens, they almost had no torso whatsoever!  Came with pink or violet chiffon collars tied in a bow.

Not really kitty kitty kittens...

1994 Playtime Kitties c Sekiguchi Creative House 1994 Tyco Industries Inc, Made in China. Slightly larger than kitty kitty kittens, arms move (has a battery compartment in bottom).  Not sure if they are related at all to Kitty Kitty Kittens but they are made by the same company and have similar eyes/noses/expression.

In 2000, Kitty Kitty Kittens were made by DSI.  I don't know if Tyco was absorbed into this company or if there was a name change or if the company was completely different; it mattered little as they  had voluntarily recalled over a quarter of a million of them, because the water inside them (to make their bodies more "lifelike" was contiminated and could cause illness to children if they managed to get in contact with said water. Despite this, in March of 2002, DSI announced that they had produced their one millionth Kitty Kitty Kitten, and Puppy Puppy Puppies were introduced at Toy Fair. There were also plans to have a coordinating website promotion with special collector's-only benefits, I do not know if these plans went through or not.  Teddy Teddy Teddies also debuted somewhere around 2003-4, as did the "Soft & Pretty" line (brightly coloured Kitty Kitty Kittens that were difficult to find in stores).  By 2004, DSI was bankrupt.


Sears Wishbook, 2001 (Canadian).  Notice the old Tyco names, and the chiffon/polka dot material for the tie. However, the 2000+ kitties have ties that do not wrap around the neck of the kitten, it is simply a little bow sewn directly into the neck.  
The 2002 kitties did not appear in the 2002 Sears Wishbook.  I don't know if they were in any later volumes.

2000 DSI tagged kittens.  Laundry tag is marked (in part) 2000, DSI Toys Inc/Meritus Industries Inc. Made in China.  Has the same characteristics as the boxed kittens below, except the bow is made of chiffon with silver dots - also sewn on, not a separate collar like the Tyco versions.

c. 2002 Kitty Kitty Kittens (Core line) Back of the box features 15 Kitty Kitty Kittens, many are "reused" patterns, others look completely new.  Of these, I have only personally seen 9 (shown below) All or some of the 2002 issue kitties were sold in cardboard boxes like these, with a name tag attached to one ear (Beanie Babies have forever changed the landscape of plushie toys I think ;) and sewn-on satin bow ties.

The other three I have had their tags removed.

c. 2002 Kitty Kitty Kittens (Core line) Laundry tags are pretty vague.  Read made in China, with no manufacturer or date mentioned, but for some reason there is a different permit number on some kitties. Bodies (if not damaged) feel very light and fat as they have an inflated air bladder inside them. 

Two Punkins; Left has the 2000 DSI marked lanudry tag, the other has the generic tag found on the boxed Kitty Kitty Kittens.  The DSI tagged one has a sparkle-dotted chiffon bow tie, the other has a satin bow tie, both sewn right onto the neck.

Two different Smokeys - the one with the mint coloured bowtie is from the boxed series.  The one with the pink bow tie has a different tag.  They are otherwise fairly similar.

Snowball- looks like the boxed series of kittens but has a different tag.  I am not sure how she was sold.


2001 DSI Kitty Kitty Kittens Another American kitty, same writing on the laundry tag as the fancy coloured ones below, but 2001, not 2002, came with chiffon/sparkle dot bow sewn directly to the neck, it does not wrap around the neck at all.

2002 "Soft & Pretty" Kitty Kitty Kittens Brightly Coloured Kittens with chiffon/sparkle dot "collars".  Mine was bought loose (no box or packaging), with a cardboard hangtag on the ear.  Laundry tag is marked (in part) 2002, DSI Toys Inc.  These appear to be the last of the Kitty Kitty Kittens.  The ear tag shows the pink kitty.

Kitties I don't have examples of: Kitties with tags marked "Made in Indonesia", Fancy Kitty Kitty Kittens, which came in clothing (have not even seen these ever, just heard about them).

Mystery Kitty Kitty Kittens: Kittens I have acquired with no laundry tags (they were removed).  They can probably be ruled out as not being the last DSI issues though, as they don't have the sewn on satin bow ties.   The one below is a charcoal grey, I don't think he's just a faded black one...?
Size differences: Farthest left is the biggest kitty kitty kittens that I've seen at about 18 inches long, middle is a regular-sized DSI, at the end is a Kitty Kitty Baby Kitten -1996 issue, the smallest kitties I know of.
Puppy Puppy Puppies

I believe these are the ones that came with the Kitty/Puppy Twin sets, they are wearing spandex bandana collars.  I don't think the ear bows on the white one are original.

These ones I found with their tags removed.  They are most likely Tyco, the grey one has the pink chiffon collar with white dots.

Are sold in pale purple boxes with a swing tag attached to the ear.   The beige one squeaks.  The Sheepdog one has just the remnants of a tag but looks to be the DSI one.

Mystery Cat

This photo was sent in by a fellow Kittens fan - can anyone help ID him?  

He does not have his tush tag...it has been clipped. He has the same style eyes and nose as the other one I have~but I cannot find him anywhere in your photos. He has the balloon belly and rumble ball inside.
