Comments/Fun Facts Other Versions of this outfit (may contain files larger than 100 kb, click at your own peril!)
  •  2nd Year Only
  • Video Madness Playset
  • Set is named after a Jem song (which not coincidentally is on the tape included with the playset)
  • Video Madness Box front image (left) is the same as the photo in the 1987 US Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogue: shows the tuba with a silver cord attached. The sticker sheet shown is not quite the same as the one in the produced set, the leg warmers are also missing the gold stripes. The tape has pink writing (it's not discernible if it's the correct tape for the set either).  The larger image shows the correct green lettered tape.
  • Video Madness Box back image is the same as the one on the Second Year Jem Catalogue Poster: also shows the tuba with a silver cord attached, the leg warmers are also missing the gold stripes. The tape has pink writing (it's not discernible if it's the correct tape for the set either)
  • The 1987 France/UK Toy Fair Catalogue (French Shown) has it's own photographs: The clapboard is not the correct colours, the tape looks like it has black writing, and one of the wristbands and the sticker sheet it missing.
  • The back of a box always says what is contained in the playset.  The bold words in my descriptions are what Hasbro themselves stated came with the playset.
INCLUDES: clapboard, backdrop cassette tape, horn, jump rope, barbell, director's chair, headband, wristbands, leg warmers and sticker sheet.
clapboard; All VM playsets came with one.  The name of the playset it came with is the name of the "Production" on the clapboard.
    Yellow with green decal.
backdrop (side one); For It's Workin' Out.
backdrop (side two); For We Can Change It.
cassette tape; It's Workin' Out- White with green lettering. Dated 1986.  Video Madness- It's Workin' Out, We Can Change It, Jem Theme.
horn; 3 words: Workout video.  Tuba.  Huh?
jump rope; I'm quite impressed with this jump rope, it's rather well made considering just a string would suffice.  The cord is the same that's found on Clash's Distortion Modulator.
barbell; I'm also pretty impressed with the barbell.  Though it doesn't show, the yellow weights have the JEM logo embossed on them!
  • It also came with the colours reversed (thanks Jake for the info and scan!)
  • director's chair, It really folds too, which is OK for getting it back in the box, but the stickers suffer and peel off (you can see in the scan...) The fabric is nylon (think tent).
headband, Gold stretchy elastic.  Thanks Dennis for the info!  Thanks to Sanni for the scan!
wristbands, Gold stretchy elastic.  Thanks to Sanni for the scan!
leg warmers; Good ol' leg warmers... for those days when it's impractical to just wear pants.  Notice the gold pin-stripes.

  • Thanks to Sanni for the scan!
  • This distinctive pattern was going to be reused for other clothing pieces in 1988, according to the photos in the Hasbro Pre-Toy Fair Catalogue Matching Medley Fashions.
  • sticker sheet; Thanks to Sanni for the scan!
