Stormer
#4205/#4010 Asst.

Description: Caucasian doll with long curly dark blue hair. Released two years, as far as I know the only difference being that her 2nd year guitar was made of glitter plastic, not opaque plastic with a glitter decal and her stand being slightly milkier looking than her first edition one.

Known Variations Comments and Fun Facts
  • I have a "wide-eyed" Stormer with paler skin tone than normal. I know nothing about her origin..
  • Jeff saw some Puerto Rican dolls that "did NOT have the "curlicue" Shana/Stormer hair-do.  They had straight-wavy hair like Synergy, they have empty cheeks & (facing front) have a beauty mark on they're left cheek... they had not "neon orange",  but a dark orange almost red lil' lightning bolt on they're right cheek."  I have personally never seen one.
  • The hair can vary from wavy to almost ringlets (see left).Taffeta claims this may be a Euro/US difference.
  • Shares the same face mold as Synergy and Shana.
  • Compare Stormer prototype photos, box art, cartoon form, comic book form and many other incarnations.
  • She and Roxy were named "Rue" at various points in time.
  • The back box always says what is contained with the doll.  The bold words in my descriptions are what Hasbro themselves stated came with the doll;
Contains; 12 1/2" doll with stage fashion, musical instrument, pumps, hairpick, cassette tape, two bracelets and figure stand.

    stage fashion
a plum spandex one shouldered tank top (see Pizzazz's dress for similar fabrics) which is trimmed with a wavy hemmed velveteen zebra print.  Also sewn to her shirt are four black mylar "claws" and a small square silver mylar sticker, like the ones on Roxy's belt. (It appears as a black diamond on this scan.)  It velcros up the side.
  • These claws are also very easily damaged and are often found broken off or missing completely. The sticker as well, is just a sticker, and is almost never found on a loose Stormer.
  • Skirt, elasticized waist black satin like mini with a slit up the front
  • Stormer's skirt can be different, the stitching is different, & some are stretchy & some not. & some are longer & shorter, & some have a variation of slits.
  • Black closed weave fishnet tights

  • Some second edition Stormers can be found with black lace tights, like those from You Gotta Be Fast.  One of these Stormers also came with a first-edition stand.  Draw what conclusions you may...
  • She comes with a different hair accessory, a plastic orange flower
musical instrument; Yellow guitar with a gold cord. The one on the left is her first edition guitar, the right is the second edition.
  • This unique body design is copied from a real guitar, the short-lived (1983-1986) Roland G-707, which combined aspects of an electric guitar and synthesizer. Very '80's!
  • The Stormer doll is usually shown holding the guitar upside down.  The "handle" is meant to be on the top, not the bottom.
  • Mexican Stormer came with a greener version of the 2nd edition guitar, as well as having a clear label on it. The sparkles are also thicker and sparser.
  • Scan of the 2nd edition guitar courtesy of Rhonda Robinson.
  • pumps; straight cut dark red-violet pumps
  • she has found with pure yellow straight edged pumps (info thanks to Molly).
  • Her French version has also come with neon yellow, to match her guitar.  (info courtesy of Dennis)
  • Again, there are some Dutch Stormer dolls that came with yellow shoes (thanks Fredo!)
  • cassette tape; Black with green lettering on the label.  Titled "Stormer"- comes with the songs "Jem Theme," "Winning is Everything", "Music Is Magic."
    hairpick; Dark Pink
two bracelets; gold spiked "Misfit" bracelets. Pizzazz, Stormer and Roxy (first and second editions) came with these.
figure stand  First edition stand is clear fluorescent yellow.  The first editions of Pizzazz, Stormer and Roxy each came with one.
This cloudier type: The second editions of Pizzazz, Stormer and Roxy and Clash each came with one.

  • Very early prototype of Stormer (originally named Roxy).  From Moggygoddess' photos.
  • Completely different doll style, outfit and make up has various obvious differences.
  • More closely resembles Stormer's first incarnation on the cartoon, as this was a photo that Sunbow would have used as a source.
  • Stormer and the Misfits in the 1986 US Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogue (it looks like the same doll is modelling the Smashin' Fashions)
  • thinner gauge of string on guitar
  • No flower
  • lips are darker (look red)
  • No claws on shirt (can't tell if the diamond sticker is there or not)
  • Only wearing one bracelet
  • Stormer (and the Misfits) in the 1987 US Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogue
  • Looks pretty much how the produced doll looks, I can't see any obvious differences.
  • Stormer with Clash in the 1987 France/UK Toy Fair Catalogue (French Shown)
  • She is wearing yellow shoes, her hair looks like the curlier variation.
  • Stormer, The Misfits, Rio and fashions in the 1986 German Leaflet
  • The decal is missing from her guitar
  • Her hair flower is white!
  • Lip colour looks a bit darker.
  • Stormer in Topolino Magazine  Issue 1602, August 10, 1986 (the very first Jem ad that ran)
