  •  2nd Year Only
  • Video Madness Playset
  • Set is named after a Jem song (which not coincidentally is on the tape included with the playset)
  • Video Madness Box front image (left) is the same as the photo in the 1987 US Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogue: there is a strange cord attached to the camera, the tambourine is much more opaque and different colours, the sticker sheet shown is not quite the same, the sunglasses are opaque and don't have lenses , Rio's photo is more of an "L" shape, the wrong tape is shown (looks like Aja's) in the small photo.
  • Video Madness Box back image is the same as the one on the Second Year Jem Catalogue Poster: there is a strange cord attached to the camera, the tambourine is much more opaque and different colours, the sticker sheet shown is not quite the same, the sunglasses are opaque and don't have lenses, the wrong tape is shown (looks like Aja's) in the small photo.

  • The 1987 France/UK Toy Fair Catalogue (French Shown) has it's own photographs: Lots of differences! The clapboard is not the correct colours, the tape looks like it has black writing, the camera has no strap, the tambourine is silver (!), the microphone is pink, the sunglasses are opaque and don't have lenses and the boa looks like a flat piece of fun fur.
The back of a box always says what is contained in the playset.  The bold words in my descriptions are what Hasbro themselves stated came with the playset.
INCLUDES: clapboard, backdrop cassette tape, picture frame, camera, tambourine, luggage, microphone, gloves, boa, glasses and sticker sheet.
clapboard;  All VM playsets came with one.  The name of the playset it came with is the name of the "Production" on the clapboard.
Lime green with bright orange decal.
    Cardboard backdrop, side 1
    Cardboard backdrop, side 2
Cassette tape; Has the songs; "Show me the Way," People Who Care," and JEM theme."
Picture Frame; Illustration is taken from Rio's "Truly Outrageous" fashion.
  • This picture was to be included with Rock N' Romance Jem
  • Camera; bright lime green, all one piece, made of rubbery plastic.
  • It's recycled for use in the Maxie toy line.
  • Tambourine; Another of my favourite items.  It's quite small (about 1 inch in diameter) made of brittle clear sparkle plastic.  You can see very faintly Jem's logo embossed on the yellow face (hint; it's sideways in the scan).

  • A prototype of the Minx doll is shown holding a tambourine similar to this.
  • Luggage; bright pink with decal on one side.  It opens, the same way that Rio's briefcase does, but this one is quite a bit larger.
Microphone; Jem hand-held mic, in bright lime green with silver head.
Gloves/armbands; iridescent thready fibre type.  Both are the same. Looks like the fabric from the Broadway Magic top.
Boa; Looks similar to the one from Award Night.  Probably a shade darker.
Glasses; Very strange, asymmetrical clear yellow plastic.
Sticker Sheet; Not sure what these are for, but you can bet they are near impossible to find in a non-mint/NRFB set!
