Gettin' Down To Business

Comments/Fun Facts Other Versions of this outfit (may contain files larger than 100 kb, click at your own peril!)
  • First Year Only
  • A Flip Side Fashion
  • It was named after a Jem song
  • All outfit scans are the contributions of Rhonda Robinson!
  • Gettin' Down To Business and the other Flip Sides in the 1986 US Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogue: has *really* sparse polkadots on her dress (they look applied, not a design on the fabric), the tights are shown to be white lace, the scarf is lighter and in a different fabric with no fringes, and the shoes are shown as straight edged light pink pumps (similar to 1st ed. Aja's)
  • Gettin' Down To Business in the 1986 German Leaflet (same photo appears in an issue of Topolino, and again in the 1986 Belgium catalogue): the polka dots are actually black sequins and are sparser than those on the produced fashioin; the lace on her dress is sewn on differently.  The tights are shown to be white lace (a pattern I don't recognise from Jem).  The scarf looks close, but I don't see any fringes, and the shoes are shown as straight edged bright pink pumps.  There are no glasses shown.
  • The drawing of Gettin' Down to Business on the 1986 Flip Side Fashions box art is nearly spot on.  Good job!
  • The Second Year package photograph of Gettin' Down to Business (the same photos are used for the 1987 US Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogue, the 1987 France/UK Toy Fair Catalogue, the Second Year Jem Catalogue Poster) (see left) has the larger polka-dot dress, and the sunglasses are quite darker.
  • It did appear on the cartoon, Jem / Jerrica
  • Coat; Made of white satin, even has the shoulder pads sewn in!
Dress;  Dark pink spandex with black polka dots and satin-fringe straps, trimmed with white lace, velcros in back.

  • Lynda has emailed me with the following photos showing differences between the first and second edition dresses.  The packaged 1st edition outfit is from the UK (which may also explain the different pattern), the loose outfit is from the US and likely a second edition but it can't be proven either way.  "...the boxed 1st Ed is darker, shinier, and has smaller spots and thinner, differently patterned lace. The dress in the Box also I believe is a bit longer."  Brian has stated the opposite is true!  ^_^  Either way, there are two versions of this dress!
  • Skirt for Jerrica;  It is slightly stretchy and has an embossed "leather" type pattern on it.  Velcros in back.
Shirt for Jerrica;  Made of soft pink cotton, velcros in back.
    Tights; closed weave, white fishnets.
Sash/Belt; Is actually a bit more pink than shown, made of thick textured cotton and white satin fringes.
Hat; The same satiny material as the jacket.
Sunglasses; peachy fluorescent orange, with the more triangular shaped lenses.  Go here to see how they compare to other Jem Sunglasses.
Shoes; Light Pink Open Toed Heeled Sandals. This was the only outfit to have pink sandals, so we can safely guess that these pink shoes are variants.  Notice the difference with the straps too!
  • More info from Lynda (It's her picture) "...the pair on the left (lighter pair with strange looking straps!) came with the loose fashion (that I believe to be 2nd edition?) and the pair on the right came with a lot which only had the tights and Jerrica top included from this fashion.  As you can see they are quite different, the first pair even feel kinda strange!"
