Doll Name Shana (1st edition)
Stock # (US) #4203/4005
Hasbro package contents listing 12 1/2" doll with stage fashion, musical instrument, pumps, hairpick, cassette tape and figure stand.
Comments/Trivia
  • Shana started out (in doll form) as a bass guitar player named Aria.  The name changed to Chandra, Beverly and then finally to Shana.  She was also not originally one of Jacqui Benton's foster daughters.
  • There is a Second Edition Shana too.
Produced Variants So far, I know of 1st Edition Shana dolls marked on their backs with one of the following places of manufacture, and there are slight variations among them:
  • Hong Kong (the doll and outfit photos on this page are of this type)
  • No Location
  • No markings at all (Juguetes Con Vida, made in Mexico)
  • Made in Spain
*I do not yet know if there are China-marked 1st issue Shanas.

To learn more about these body types and slight differences, please see the body variations page.

12 1/2" doll; African-American doll with curly lavender hair.
  • Nude, she can be most easily differentiated from her second edition by lack of earring holes or earrings.
  • The make up scheme & hairstyle can vary a bit- go to the Holograms doll comparison page for more information.
  • StormerSynergy and Shana share the same face mold.

stage fashion (hairbow); White with iridescent strands sewn in, attached to white fabric elastic.
  • Material is a lot like 1st Edition Jem/Jerrica's tights.

stage fashion (jacket); silver lamé 3/4 length jacket with silver tinsel threaded epaulettes on the shoulders.
  • Mexican Shana came with a white pleather version of this jacket.

stage fashion (dress); Tank style, gathered up the front with sewn in elastic, slit up front.  It's a plastic-y iridescent fabric, velcros in back.

stage fashion (panties); Pink satiny material.
  • the non-Widow's peak version are slightly pinker with a more ribbed texture and straight stitch around the leg holes and waist.
musical instrument; Guitar; Dark pink plastic with a sparkly decal on it
  • there are clear dark purple versions of this guitar; one for 2nd edition Shana and a different one for Mexican Shana
  • It strongly resembles a Mockingbird guitar made by the B.C. Rich company

pumps: Lavender straight edge pumps.

hairpick; red-violet, sort of translucent.
cassette tape; White with pink lettering, dated 1985.  Shana; Jem Theme, Gettin' Down to Business, Too Close.

figure stand: clear fluorescent pink -not cloudy or milky at all, those are second edition stands. The Jem logo is embossed on the underside.
  • There seem to be several slight shade differences between the stands. I do not yet know if there is any logic behind who gets what colour, the link is just a random sample of the different stands I've seen.
  • My Shana stand does not have the "TM" mark.
  • The same (or close enough for all practical purposes) stand came with the 1st editions of: Jem, AjaKimber & Shana.

Items not listed in Hasbro's box contents (not all dolls came with the same posters and inserts, this is a listing of what I got personally with my dolls)

Illustrations: Cartoon (shown left) Looks pretty much like the doll, except she is missing the hairbow and the shoes are white sandals, not lavender pumps.  She is also shown with earrings which the doll did not have.  The make up scheme is completely different and the doll generally doesn't have football-shaped hair either ;)
Illustrations: UK Comics Notice the hair looks more like the box art and the doll than it does the cartoon.
