Comments/Trivia
  • Aja was originally named Jade, and played keyboards.
Produced Variants So far, I know of 1st Edition Aja dolls marked on their backs with one of the following places of manufacture, and there are slight variations among them:
  • Hong Kong (dolls featured on this page are Hong Kong made)
  • No Location
  • No markings at all (Juguetes Con Vida, made in Mexico)
  • Made in Spain
*I do not yet know if there are China-marked 1st issue Ajas.

To learn more about these body types and slight differences, please see the body variations page.

12 1/2" doll; Caucasian-tone doll with long straight aqua hair, cut in two layers.  Oriental features.
  • Nude, she can most easily be differentiated from her second edition by lack of earring holes or earrings.
  • If her eye make up is white, she is most likely a Super Stars doll. If one came in a Hasbro box, I have yet to see it.
  • Aja is the only Jem doll with this face mold.  Looks similar to Kenner's Darci doll face mold.

stage fashion (shirt); Dark lavender lamé, elasticized sides, 3/4 length sleeves, 2 velcro closures in back.
  • colour can range in darkness and pinkness, but her 2nd edition shirt is very much plum coloured and should not be confused with this version.
  • the size can also range a little bit.

stage fashion (belt); light pink double-strand of sequins, velcro closure.
  • can vary a little bit in width and thread colour.
stage fashion (skirt);  snakeskin patterned, mauve and blue mini with slit in the front.  Velcro closure in back.
  • The pattern can vary from larger & smaller scales.
  • Italian (possibly other Euro) doll's skirt is longer with a higher slit, less pliable material and lighter pink stitching.
  • There is a Rose Petal Place doll that came with an outfit made of the same material

stage fashion (tights); Very tight-weave & almost completely made of multi-coloured glittery threads, elasticized waist. She has the only tights of this type.
  • One of Hasbro's "Moon Dreamers" dolls also came with tights made of this fabric.

musical instrument; Light aqua blue guitar with three tuning pegs, aqua glitter decal on front, silver cord.
  • Aja's second edition instrument is clear blue with sparkles.
  • Mexican Aja's is dark purple with sparkles.

pumps: pale lavender pink straight edged pumps.
  • The only doll with this colour.  1st Edition Shana's are a bit darker.
  • Italian (possibly other Euro) doll's shoes are pinker and shinier. Compare.

hairpick; Magenta (sort of translucent).
cassette tape; white with pink lettering. Dated 1985.  Long Jem theme & song versions, instrumental side has instruments playing the vocal track.
Side A "Aja- Jem Theme, Like a Dream, and  She's Got the Power."
Side B "Aja - Jem Instrumental"

figure stand: clear fluorescent pink -not cloudy or milky at all, those are second edition stands. The Jem logo is embossed on the underside.
  • There seem to be several slight shade differences between the stands. I do not yet know if there is any logic behind who gets what colour, the link is just a random sample of the different stands I've seen.
  • My Aja stand does not have the "TM" mark.
  • The same (or close enough for all practical purposes) stand came with the 1st editions of: Jem, Aja, Kimber & Shana.

Items not listed in Hasbro's box contents (not all dolls came with the same posters and inserts, this is a listing of what I got personally with my dolls)
Box; First year Hologram box with flap, US version.   (Made in Hong Kong H44)
