Clash
#4207

Description: Caucasian doll with long straight plum hair.

Known Variations Comments and Fun Facts
  • There is one variation, discovered by Michael Chambers, has to do with the back of the head being painted, but bald, with no punch holes.  There is a Jetta with a similar trait.
  • The other is a shorter haired version of Clash, which would probably have to be NRFB to be of any value, since it's pretty easy to cut off hair!
  • Her face is pretty similar to the Kenner "Darci" line doll Erica; it is the same mold as fellow Jem dolls Danse & Jetta.
  • Compare Clash prototype photos, box art, cartoon form, comic book form and many other incarnations.
  • The back box always says what is contained with the doll.  The bold words in my descriptions are what Hasbro themselves stated came with the doll;
Contains; 12 1/2" doll with stage fashion, pretend distortion modulator and headset, two bracelets, hairpick,  pumps, cassette tape and figure stand.

    stage fashion
Dress; Sleeveless mini, black base with metallic threads woven in, green, yellow and pink. Velcros in the back.
Tights; hot pink, elasticized waist with a zig-zag silver metallic pattern.

  • Rock N' Curl Jem's are slightly brighter pink, they are different, thanks Jeff for the keen eye to point this out. Thanks to Catherine Desjardins for the scan.
  • Belt; thick foil type material, hot pink, glittery blue sticker "buckle", velcros in front.
  • Thanks to Pete B for this scan!
  • Jacket; chartreuse fun-fur bolero with an aqua blue lamé collar.

  • Xtasy has a variation, where the inner-right side of the lamé collar is a darker, more green aqua colour (very noticeable)
  • pretend distortion modulator; (and I expected a REAL distortion modulator!); pink jaggedy plastic thing with a sticker decal on front.

  • Felicity-chan has a distortion modulator with a green strap; I'm not sure if it was a home-made repair job or done at Hasbro though!
  • headset; to the left is pastel yellow, also available in fluorescent yellow (right)

  • Thanks to Pete B. for the fluorescent yellow scan!
  • two bracelets; like Glitter N' Gold Jem's- thin zig-zag metallic, but red. (I've seen them dark pink as well).

  • Thanks Leon for the scan of the paler pink version!
  • hairpick; dark pink

Go to Jem combs to see minute colour differences if you care!

Pumps; One of many shades of pink, scalloped shoes.

  • Distinguishable by it's thick edges, and darker colour.  For more on how to tell these shoes apart from similar Jem shoes, please visit the Jem shoe guide.
  • Jeff says his NRFB Clash came with royal purple pumps, not pink.
  • Cassette; Same colour scheme as the first year Misfits tapes, dated 1986.  Long Jem theme, no instruments on vocal track for the instrumental side.
Side A "Clash- "JEM theme", "I Am A Giant:, "You Oughta See The View From Here"
    Side B "Clash- Instrumental"
figure stand; fluorescent yellow, milkier than the first year Misfit stands.

    Clash in various incarnations

*The following inks are graphic intensive and may feature files over 100KB.  Click at your own peril!

  • Clash in the 1st quarter and media guide, (see Brian's site for pics and more info)
  • Hair is more like the purple rat-tail look we know from the cartoon.
The distortion modulator decal is slightly different
Tights look thicker/less zig-zaggy patterned than her produced ones.
Her make up is also considerably darker.
    Thinner, non-foil bracelets
  • Clash on her box back (appears to be the same doll from the 1st quarter and media guide), in a different pose/hair styling.
  • the graphic on her distortion modulator is different, it has a different cord (cord satin);
the hair also looks more asymmetrical than the produced dolls'.
She is wearing thinner, non-foil bracelets.
Make up (especially the eyebrows) appears much dark
  • The Welcome to the Jungle Video Madness Box front image (left) is the same as the photo in the 1987 US Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogue and Welcome to the Jungle Video Madness Box back image shows Clash
  • asymetrical hairstyle
She is wearing thinner, non-foil bracelets.
Make up (especially the eyebrows) appears much dark
Tights look thicker/less zig-zaggy patterned than her produced ones.
  • Clash and Jetta in the 1987 US Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogue, (same photo appears on the 2nd year catalogue poster)
  • the graphic on her distortion modulator is different, it has a different cord (green satin)
the hair still looks more asymmetrical than the produced dolls' but not quite as crazy as the quarterly media guide photo.
Her eye make up is also a bit darker, but not quite as dark as that shown on the box back, the quarterly media guide.
  • Clash and Stormer in the 1987 France/UK Toy Fair Catalogue (French Shown).
  • Another different graphic on the distortion modulator, it's got a green holographic decal.
    hair again more asymmetrical looking.
Clash's distortion modulator is called a "vocoder" in this catalogue.
She is shown wearing only one bracelet
The make up is much more like the produced dolls' make up than the other prototypes I've seen of her.
  • Clash on the cartoon (Do look, there is a really early Clash model sheet there, where she is nearly unrecognizable!)
