Rock Backstager
#4080

Carrying case (has room for one or two dolls, and fashions) that is also a speaker (plugs into the Star Stage or the Rockin' Roadster.)

  • Generally is found with all of the shelves and drawers, but it has been "dissected" for this page!
  • The main complaint about this playset is that the hinges will not stay in place and more often than not the playset just ends up being two "halves".
  • It is known as the "Coulisse Rock" in French Canada

  •

The back of the box always says what is contained with the playset.  The bold words in my descriptions are what Hasbro themselves stated came with the Jem Rock Backstager

Contains; playcase with working audio speaker, patch cord, carry handle, vanity table with 4 drawers, reclining chair, hand mirror, hairbrush, comb, clothing rack, 8 clothes hangers, label sheets and instructions, "pretend" accessories include nail polish bottle, hairspray bottle and hair dryer.

  • Here is the inside view.  It's made of the same plastic colours as the Rockin' Roadster (chartreuse green and hot pink).
patch cord; standard mini to mini cable (like walkman headphones basically), approximately 1 1/2 feet long.  Use it to hook up the backstager to the Star Stage or the Rockin' Roadster (why, I don't really know since both of those things have their own speakers in them already...)
carry handle; see the top of the first picture, there's the handle ^_^
This is the top shelf-type thingy, it rests on the vanity table top.  I think that squiggly thing is supposed to be a TV....
vanity table; This is the table top, the sparkly pink stuff is actually like a thick glittery sticker, the same stuff that's used on the front of the speaker case.
These are the side-shelf-y things that hold the drawers, I guess they are also the vanity table legs.
4 drawers; all of them have silver mylar stickers over the drawer-pulls. Each drawer fits in a specific hole and can't be placed anywhere else.

2 top drawers (they are smaller) Top left (left) and top right (on the right)
2 bottom drawers; bottom left (left), bottom right (on the right) The bottom right one is missing it's silver sticker.
reclining chair; Hmm, the infamous "reclining chair".  I have yet to see one of these chairs that actually does recline, though it's named as such and the box has a picture of a reclining one.
If it does, mine is missing some kind of joint or something.
  • So far, one person (thanks Sara ;) has indicated that they did indeed have a reclining one! Anyone have a pic to share?
  • hand mirror; has a zig-zag pattern on the back (most of the grooming accessories do).
hairbrush; has a zig-zag pattern on the back (most of the grooming accessories do).
comb; has a zig-zag pattern on the handle (most of the grooming accessories do).
clothing rack; hooks up between the green divider a wall.
8 clothes hangers; there are 8 of these, only one is shown
    label sheets (need scan)
instructions Page 1 Page 2  Thanks for the scans Eliza!
    "pretend" accessories
nail polish bottle; has a zig-zag pattern on the bottle (most of the grooming accessories do).
hairspray bottle; has a zig-zag pattern on the bottle (most of the grooming accessories do).
hair dryer; your standard pretty generic looking hair-dryer.
Hasbro neglected to mention that these items were also included:
Green partition (It's shown to be pink in the prototype photos.)  If you look closely at my bad photo you can see grooves where the clothing rack and the zig-zag shelf slide in.  Shown greatly reduced, it's actually about 12" tall.
the zig-zag shelf; The pink stuff is actually more of that thick-glittery decal stuff that they used on the speaker front and the vanity trim.
The side clasp- VERY important piece if you want to carry the thing around as a speaker, since it opens unless it's secured with this clasp (which is easily lost, I might add!) So in addition to making the hinges stay in place better, I think Hasbro could've made this piece a part of the speaker itself, and not a separate piece.

  • This page was compiled with my MIB US issued playset as a source. I don't have one NRFB, and no one has even submitted me this information so I'm guessing no one really cares! ^_^
