Soon to be a lot more all-inclusive. A new way to look at the Jem line: through dealer's catalogues. Unfortunately these things have been selling for mega-bucks lately, which makes it prohibitive for Jem fans to get to see these wonderful pictures! Basically from my understanding, these are called "Toy Fair", "Dealer/Retailer", or "Salesman" catalogues. They are magazine sized books with lots of large, colour photos of the toys that were available from Hasbro during the specified year. They are particularly helpful to collectors in that they show what was made for the year in question- but there is also the warning that just because something appears in the catalogue, does not mean there was enough retailer interest to justify producing it. So the rule is, if it's in the catalogue, it may have been produced that year. It's difficult to say if anything that is not in the catalogue was not produced in the country of the catalogue's origin - case in point: Jetta dolls were available in New Zealand, despite not being in their dealer's catalogue. It is quite possible they imported them from another country. Another thing about dealer's catalogues is that they are photographs of prototypes in most cases, so, while they may not be 100% accurate as to showing what the produced toy looked like, they do give you a peek into the process of producing the toy, little things that would have been changed along the way. The numbers shown beside the listing is the stock number. While it's possibly not all that interesting in and of itself, I think it's kind of neat to see how the numbers were assigned. Unfortunately I don't yet know all the stock #'s. If you have some numbers I don't have listed, feel free to let me know and I'll update this page as soon as I can! So far, these are the dealer/toy fair catalogues I have scans from. 1986, USA

Hasbro Pre-Toy Fair Catalogue: Unproduced 3rd Year (1988)
The most interesting! What may have been in store for Jem in the third Year. Notice that "the Holograms" comprise only of Danse, Video, Astral and Regine... The Misfits are mentioned as well, so don't think they were completely out of the game by this point! |

Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogue (1987)
Had most of the US line available. Missing are Jetta, Synergy, Rio Fashions, The Starlight Girls, Wrist Rocks & KJEM. The Holograms were sold in two assortments- the standard 4005 (with Aja, Kimber and Shana) and with a new assortment number, #4006 with Danse, Raya and Video (the US edition has the newest three Holograms each sold on their own, instead of in assortment packages). The pictures were also used in the French 1987 catalogue. |

Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogue (1987)
Had most of the US line available. Missing: Jetta and the Rio Fashions. The French used a completely different stock number system. The photos are the same as those used in the UK catalogue. Some outfits have spelling errors in their names. The Misfits and Holograms dolls each had their own stock number, but I think were likely sold in assortments. The Glitter N' Gold Rio page is flipped (so it is backwards, the Jem logo on the car is backwards for example) *A huge "merci beaucoup" to Isabelle for donating these wonderful pictures! |

Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogue (1988)
This catalogue is the 1988 Hasbro catalogue, not pre-toy fair; Hasbro France only produced one catalogue a year for the toy shops to order from. I have no way of knowing if these dolls and/or fashions were released in France, but considering none have shown up in 20 years, it doesn't seem likely. The stock numbers seem to refer back to the US stock numbers oddly -notice the 1987 French stock numbers are totally different. Again, oddly- "Hollywood Jem" is numbered #4009, not #4007 which American Beauty is numbered. This is the only time the stock number of #4009 is seen and could potentially refer to the "actual" Hollywood Jem, not just a renamed American Beauty. These scans were very kindly donated by Sylvain! |

| German
leaflet (1986)
I am not sure what this leaflet was made for, possibly as in insert for the German Jem comics? It appears to have been made for the general public, as opposed to the dealer catalogues shown above. It shows the entire 1986 Jem line, I'm not certain if every item was actually available (as in, made for the German market, not imported) there. This catalogue has completely new photography, leading me to believe that it was photographed in Germany (or at least for the German or European market). |

| Jem Comics
(1986-1987)
I believe these comics originated in the UK, they were translated into other languages and sold throughout Europe (Italian, German, & French translations have so far been discovered). The art was quite accomplished and stories weren't too bad either, IMHO! The majority of it was the Jem comics, as well as the odd article on a current music star or horoscope. They even had advertisements for the dolls, playsets, other Jem books sprinkled throughout it's pages, thus the inclusion of them on this page. Thanks to Laura (Badgerprincess) for the UK comic scans! |

Mickey Mouse comic book
About 5" by 7", it's small. But inside is a real treat for doll fans- the first year featured 2 page colour ads for the Jem dolls, and the second year features full colour, multi-paged comic book-style story all done using photographs of the dolls, their fashions, playsets, etc (Toyfare, eat your heart out!), using the 2nd year fashions and dolls, that ironically never were sold there. The first year used some of the ads more than once. The girls were quite prone to physical violence in these stories! Thanks to Brian, Luca, Davide, Claudia for their help on this section! |

| Licensing Specifications Kit
Jem licensing specifications kit published by Hasbro in 1986 for the launch of the Jem fashion doll line. This comprehensive guide is in the form of an album cover that opens up to reveal two folders full of 11 1/2" square colored sheets that outline every aspect regarding the Jem product line. Included are sheets dealing with: Logos, line art, packaging, color specifications, etc., plus individual sheets on all the characters and playsets, 20 sheets in all! This item was designed to be a style guide for any other companies interested in licensing the Jem name from Hasbro to apply it to other products beyond the core toy line."
