Other Proposed 1988 Jem & Jem/Jerrica Dolls

We know there were plans for American Beauty and Rockin' Romance Jem for 1988.  It seems likely that there would have been at least preliminary plans for a Hollywood Jem doll, and /or other Jem dolls that just didn't make the cut.  This section is just a curious smattering of 1988-related Jem things that don't seem to fall into the American Beauty/Rockin' Romance Jem doll camp, I hope it will be a more significant page in the future.

First, of course, would have to be Hollywood Jem.  She seemed poised for big things; like Glitter 'N Gold Jem, she had an introductory episode (2, actually!), a theme song and a pile of newly showcased fashions on the cartoon, yet doll collectors have seen very little evidence of a Hollywood Jem doll or a line of fashions being produced.  Even our source at Sunbow didn't have a Hollywood Jem among the collection of the 1988 proposed dolls photos.
All the evidence of a Hollywood Jem doll we do have (so far!) is this silver fashion, which cartoon fans will recognize as Jem's Maid of Honour dress from the episode Hollywood Jem Part 2

The seller of this item stated that this fashion was meant to be the Hollywood Jem doll's fashion.  It started out on a Jem doll with shorter hair and a hat, which eventually was replaced with Jem doll with much longer hair, and no hat.  You can see below that the designers used a Rock 'N Curl Jem as the model, showing how early in the production this photo was taken.

Personally, I find it difficult to believe that Hasbro would have it's lead doll shown only for a about a second in the Hollywood Jem video, and then essentially in the background for the only other scene she appeared in; so if this is all there is of a Hollywood Jem line, it must have been nixed long before the cartoon was completed.  In the typical toy company spirit of waste not want not, this fashion modified to become a Smashin' Fashion for the Misfits.

More 1988 hints of Jem dolls to come (maybe!)
Shown here is what appears to be a 1st edition Jem/Jerrica doll in an unknown fashion, with a prototype playset for 1988.  It is unknown if the fashion is just simply one that was never made, or if it's a Jem doll fashion that never made it into production.

    Marked on back of head:

    JEM '88

Evidently intended for 1988, is likely an early draft of a mold meant for some version of Jem.
