Second Edition Shana
4203/4005 Asst.
Description: African-American doll with cool lavender purple hair. Nude, she can be differentiated from her first edition  by the presence of earring holes and a widow's peak.

Known Variations Comments and Fun Facts
  • Stacey Rew of New Zealand says her 2nd ed Shana's "pant-suit had a either purple, yellow or blue top and the pants may have been red but they were not pink. Her hair bow was a plain red. Her earrings were plain hoops and were yellow." I have yet to see photographic evidence of this.
  • She shares the same face mold as Synergy and Stormer.
  • Some first edition Shana's also have a widow's peak, but unless they have the earrings or earring holes, it isn't a Second Edition Shana.
  • The skin tone of 2nd edition Shana is also the same shade as the widow's peak 1st edition Shana, which is a bit lighter than the regular 1st edition Shana. (confused yet? ^_^)
  • Her make up is generally the same as the widow's peak 1st edition Shana (it's opaque, not sheer metallic) but it the eyeliner is even more exaggerated, extending very far below the eyes.
  • She is often considered the rarest produced Jem doll (rare is a relative term here!)
  • Compare 2nd Edition Shana prototype photos, box art, cartoon form, comic book form and many other incarnations.
  • The back of the box always says what is contained with the doll.  The bold words in my descriptions are what Hasbro themselves stated came with the doll;
Contains: 12 1/2" doll with stage fashion, pretend musical instrument, pumps, hairpick, cassette tape and figure stand.

    stage fashion
Earrings; Dark orangey-melon coloured figure eights.
Her pantsuit is actually a combination of two fabrics, the top half being made out of a sturdy emerald lamé, the bottom half is made of fluorescent pink spandex.

  • The heavier fabric on top was much needed innovation, since Jem's pantsuits all had the nasty habit of falling down in front!  In the back is the standard velcro closure.
  • Her jacket is made of satin-like polyester.  It frays easily.  If you look closely, there is a wide, faint diagonal wavy pattern in the satin.
Her hairbow is similar to Rock N' Curl Jem's fluorescent pink one, EXCEPT hers is about half as wide and a shade lighter.  It is made of the typical elastic-y lace.

  • There are some Maxie fashion packs that come with a ribbon either identical to this one, or pretty darn close.
  • Thanks to Thumper for this scan!
  • pretend musical instrument; Her guitar is a royal purple (quite a darker and bluer shade from her first guitar) made of clear sparkly plastic, silver cord.

  • There is a Mexican version of this guitar too, differentiated most easily by the clear plastic decal.
  • It is based on a real guitar design, a BC Rich Mockingbird.
