Second Edition Kimber
#4202/4005

Description: Caucasian doll with long red-pink hair.  She differs from the 1st edition by the presence of earring holes.  She also comes with an aqua blue stretch-lace bandana, which should be attached to her head, but usually isn't with loose dolls!

Known Variations Comments and Fun Facts
  • Some 2nd Edition Kimbers came with the same, darker hair colour as the first edition Kimber. (there will not be streaks of pink in it, which is typical of the 2nd edition Kimber). I would say the darker hair is rarer, but people generally prefer the light hair on 2nd ed. Kimbers so neither is worth more than the other.
  • Oddly, some 2nd edition Kimbers have a thin layer (think plastic wrap) of transparent plastic on their skulls (the hair punches through).  Some people have mentioned having these dolls leech colour into the skin/clothes, so be careful with these dolls!  Pizzazz is the only other doll I know with this problem.
  • Her face is pretty similar to the Kenner "Darci" line doll Dana; it is the same mold as fellow Jem dolls Roxy and Video.
  • As far as I can tell, this outfit wasn't shown on the cartoon.
  • Compare 2nd Edition Kimber prototype photos, box art, cartoon form, comic book form and many other incarnations.
  • The back box always says what is contained with the doll.  The bold words in my descriptions are what Hasbro themselves stated came with the doll;
Contains 12 1/2" doll with stage fashion, pretend musical instrument, pumps, hair pick, cassette tape and figure stand.

Kimber's new tuxedo jacket is made of satiny plum material with a darker purple "woodgrain" design running through out.  Her lapels are iridescent purple like Video's jacket, trimmed with lace cuffs and inner lapels.

  • It's a variation of her first year jacket
  •  Her earrings are fluorescent yellow hoops with triangles.
Her pants are pre-wrinkled (the ones shown on this page are from an NRFB doll) satin with a velvety pink attached "belt".

  • There is a yellow pants variation.  Half of the people say they are faded green ones, another half say they were made that way.  Believe who you want!
  • Hair bow; It is aqua stretchy lace.

  • Thanks to Thumper for the scan!
  • Should be attached to head with plastic bolts.  In many loose dolls this is no longer the case.
  • pretend musical instrument; Her new instrument was of the same mold as her first edition one, but made with magenta sparkly-clear plastic.  The cord is silver.

  • Another variation of this keyboard was made, presumed to be the Mexican version.  The plastic is more brittle and the colours are different.
  • In the 2nd ed Hologram box back  photo, her 2nd edition keyboard is shown to be opaque/sparkly, not clear/sparkly.  It was probably the first one to be made into the clear/sparkly version as some prototype photos (like the 1987 Toy Fair catalogue) have her with her correct guitar, and the other holograms still holding their "opaque" unproduced ones.
  • pumps: The same colour as those that came with "Fire N' Ice"

  • Distinguishable by it's thin edges, and melon/coral pink colour.  Here's a pic  of: Clash (#1), Gold Rush (#2), Rock & Curl Jem /Second Edition Aja (#3) 's, & Second Edition Kimber's (#4) shoes side by side to tell the difference.
  • In person, the colour is a bit less vibrant than the scan implies.
  • hair pick; Medium Pink (with a bluish tone)

The tape she comes with is the standard white with pink writing and has the songs:
    "Jem Theme"
    "Can't Get My Love"
    "Love's Not Easy."
figure stand; It is dark pink and slightly milkier looking.
These stands came with the 2nd editions of Aja, Kimber, Shana, Flash N' Sizzle Jem, Danse, and Video

  • Second Edition Kimber (and the Holograms) in the 1987 US Hasbro Toy Fair Catalogue
  • She is the only Hologram shown with a translucent (correct) instrument.  Both Aja and Shana are still shown with their earlier opaque versions that were never produced.
  • Second Edition Kimber (+Aja and Video) in the 1987 French Toy Fair Catalogue (The UK catalogue has the same photo)
  • Kimber's pants are nicely ironed in this catalogue.  They should be wrinkly looking, that was the intended style.
  • Second Edition Kimber  in Topolino Magazine  (one of many issues from 1987)
  • Kimber on the cartoon
  • I don't think she wore her second edition outfit on the cartoon.
  • Second Edition Kimber on the back of the 2nd year hologram boxes (same photo appears on the 2nd year catalogue poster)
  • Her earrings are erroneously shown to be hoops in the prototype/catalogue photos.  Some Raya's actually came with yellow hoops though so they were produced, but not for 2nd edition Kimber most likely.  Thanks to Pete B. for the hoop earringed scan!
Her keyboard is shown to be opaque.
  • 2nd Edition Kimber in various commercials for: Rock Backstager, Rock N' Curl Jem. She may be in other commercials I haven't yet screen captured for this site.
  • Second Edition Kimber and the other 2nd edition Holograms are shown wearing bright yellow hoop earrings on the back of the Music is Magic fashion boxes ( the same photo appears on the 2nd year catalogue poster).
