Their boxes are easily distinguishable as being rectangular with a side flap.  There is a large drawing of the doll's character on the flap.  These dolls are generally easier to find than their second year counterparts, though are not necessarily less valuable, since these are the outfits used on the show and the ones most fans of the cartoon remember.  The dolls themselves are dated 1985, even though they were not included in Hasbro's line of toys until 1986.
