Description: African-American doll with cool lavender purple hair. Nude, she can be most easily differentiated from her second edition by lack of earring holes or earrings.

Known Variations Comments and Fun Facts
  • There is a Widow's Peak first edition Shana, which, has a widow's peak and her skin is a bit lighter toned.  It also seems to me that the Widow's peak Shana has longer hair, though I can't say for sure. (Since a few people have asked, I'll explain -basically a widow's peak has to do with the hair, when the hair line dips down slightly in the middle of the forehead, making the face have a heart-like shape to it.
  • There are also two different make-up schemes, both are found on the non-widow's-peak version, and only the latter is found on the widow's peak version.  The first scheme is of slightly metallic, pink toned sheer eyeshadow.  The second scheme has more opaque and whiter eyeshadow, with the under-eye shadow extending further down the cheeks. (thanks to Jeff for pointing this out!)
  • There is a Mexican Shana, who basically comes with her first edition outfit, with earrings!
  • She shares the same face mold as Synergy and Stormer
  • Shana started out (in doll form) as a bass guitar player named Aria.  The name changed to Chandra, and then finally to Shana.
  • She was not originally one of Jacqui Benton's foster daughters.
  • At some point was named Beverly (see this site for proof!)

  • The back of the box always says what is contained with the doll.  The bold words in my descriptions are what Hasbro themselves stated came with the doll;
Contains; 12 1/2" doll with stage fashion, musical instrument, pumps, hairpick, cassette tape and figure stand

    stage fashion

Dress; Tank style, gathered up the front with sewn in elastic, slit up front.  It's a strange plastic-y iridescent fabric, velcros in back.
Hair bow; White with iridescent strands sewn in.
  • -Material is a lot like 1st Edition Jem/Jerrica's tights. It is attached to an elastic. (Thanks to Thumper for the scan!)
  • Panties
  • There are some differences with her panties; Shana without widow's peak's look like Pizzazz's undies fabric wise, horizontal lines of the weave prominent.  The have a straight stitch around the leg holes and waist. Widow's peak Shana have a more vertical fabric pattern, and the rectangles where the weave crosses is also quite visible. The legs and waist have been zig-zag stitched.  Both panties are light lavender, Shana with out's having a more pinky sheen. (Information courtesy of Holly.)
  • Jacket; silver lamé 3/4 length jacket, it has silver tinsel threaded epaulettes on the shoulders.

-If you have this jacket in a white "pleather" type material, it's probably from Mexican Shana.

musical instrument: Guitar; Dark pink plastic with a sparkly decal on it

-Compare with (2nd Edition Shana's guitar is clear-purple with sparkles in it).
-Dark purple & clear?  Maybe it's Mexican Shana's guitar.
-It strongly resembles a Mockingbird guitar made by the B.C. Rich company

pumps; darker and less pink than 1st Edition Ajas'.
    hairpick Red-Violet (sort of translucent)

-Compare to other Jem hair pick

Cassette tape; White with pink lettering, dated 1985.  Shana; Jem Theme, Gettin' Down to Business, Too Close.
figure stand.  Dark pink and clear first year stand. The Jem logo is embossed on the underside.

-The exact same stand came with the 1st editions of: Jem, Aja, Kimber & Shana.
